How to Connect ChatGPT to the vFairs MCP Server
This article explains how to connect ChatGPT to the vFairs MCP Server, outlines the event data and insights available through the connection, and provides sample prompts to help you get started.
Who is this for
This guide is for vFairs organization owners who want to query their organization’s event data through ChatGPT. The connection must be authenticated with an Organization Owner account.
What is MCP?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that allows AI applications to connect to external tools and data sources. The vFairs MCP Server acts as a controlled bridge between ChatGPT and the vFairs organization you authorize.
vFairs remains the source of your event data. MCP gives ChatGPT a conversational way to retrieve and analyze the information made available through the connection.
Before you begin- Use ChatGPT in a supported web browser at https://chatgpt.com.
- Make sure Developer mode is available for your ChatGPT account. Availability can depend on your plan, workspace settings, and role.
- Have the credentials for your vFairs Organization Owner account ready.
- Use this vFairs MCP Server URL: https://agent.vfairs.com/mcp
Important: If Developer mode or the option to create a plugin is not visible, check with your ChatGPT workspace administrator or confirm that your plan supports custom MCP connections.
Connect ChatGPT to the vFairs MCP Server
Step 1: Open ChatGPT Settings
While signed in at chatgpt.com, select your profile picture in the lower-left corner, then select Settings.
In Settings, select Plugins. You can also use the settings search field to find “Developer mode.”

Step 2: Enable Developer modeUnder Plugins, select Developer mode and enable it. Developer mode must be enabled before you can create the custom vFairs MCP connection.
Security reminder: Only create custom connections to MCP servers that you know and trust. Review your organization’s AI and data-handling policies before enabling a connection.
Return to Plugins and select Browse plugins. On the Plugins screen, select the plus (+) icon near the search field.

Step 4: Enter the vFairs MCP connection detailsIn the New Plugin window, enter the following information:
- Name: vFairs MCP. This name is for your reference and can be changed.
- Connection: Select Server URL.
- Server URL: https://agent.vfairs.com/mcp
- Authentication: OAuth.
- Select “I understand and want to continue.”
Click the Create button to continue.

Step 5: Authenticate with vFairsChatGPT will display an authorization window. Select Sign in with vFairs MCP to open the vFairs authentication page.

Sign in using your vFairs Organization Owner credentials. Only an Organization Owner can authorize this connection.

Step 6: Confirm the connectionAfter successful authentication, you will return to ChatGPT. In Settings > Plugins, vFairs MCP should display the status Connected.

You are connected: Start a new chat and ask your first event-data question. To make the request explicit, include “Use vFairs MCP” in your prompt.
Try your first prompt
Example: Use vFairs MCP. How healthy is registration for [Event_Name]? Show the status breakdown, registration pace, profile completeness, and anything that needs attention.
After the first response, continue with follow-up questions instead of starting over. For example:
- Which registration segments are underrepresented?
- Which issues should my team address first?
- Turn these findings into a short executive summary.
The vFairs MCP connection can help ChatGPT retrieve and analyze the event information available to your authorized organization. Common use cases include:
Events and organization: List events, review event dates and formats, retrieve individual event details, and compare performance across multiple events.
Attendees and registrations: Review registration counts and trends, segment attendees using registration-form responses, compare sources, and identify incomplete profiles or inactive registrations.
Sessions and speakers: Search session and speaker details, review schedules and tracks, rank sessions by attendance, and identify sessions with low engagement.
Exhibitors and booths: Retrieve exhibitor and booth information, compare visitor traffic, and identify booths that are performing strongly or may need additional promotion.
Attendee activity and engagement: Analyze event check-ins, booth visits, session attendance, content views, and other available activities. Identify highly engaged attendees and people with little or no activity.
Meetings: Review available meeting information, including scheduled or accepted meetings, when that data is available to the connected organization.
Surveys: Analyze survey, poll, and quiz responses; summarize sentiment; identify common themes; and recommend improvements.
Reports and benchmarking: Create executive summaries, compare events, identify anomalies, recommend next actions, and prepare data for dashboards or shareable reports.
How to ask better questions
- Name the event when your organization has more than one event.
- Use exact session, booth, speaker, or attendee names when possible.
- Include a date range when asking about registration or engagement trends.
- State the comparison you want, such as this event versus last year or registrations versus active attendees.
- Ask follow-up questions. ChatGPT can refine the analysis using the context already established in the conversation.
- Ask for the output format you need, such as a concise summary, ranked list, table, chart, or recommended action plan.
- How many attendees have registered for [event name], and how has registration changed over the last seven days?
- Which attendees have registered but have not logged in or participated in any activity?
- Which sessions have the highest and lowest attendance?
- Which exhibitor booths are receiving the most visits, and which need a marketing push?
- Compare registrations and engagement across our active events.
- Analyze our post-event survey and recommend the five most important improvements.
- Generate an executive summary for [event name].
Troubleshooting
Developer mode is missing: Confirm your ChatGPT plan, workspace role, and administrator settings. Availability and menu labels may vary as ChatGPT updates its interface.
Authentication fails: Confirm that you are signing in with a vFairs Organization Owner account and that the credentials are valid.
The plugin is not used in a response: Start a new chat, explicitly say “Use vFairs MCP” or the plugin name you used, and select the connected plugin from ChatGPT’s tools or plugin menu if required.
The requested information is not returned: Confirm that the data exists in the connected vFairs organization and make the event name, date range, and requested metric more specific.
Data Privacy and Responsible Use
The vFairs MCP Server extends the security and privacy practices you already expect from vFairs to AI-assisted event analysis. The connection must be authorized by a vFairs Organization Owner, is limited to the connected organization, and provides read-only access. ChatGPT retrieves event information only when you ask it to, and the connection can be disconnected at any time.
Use the connection responsibly by requesting only the information needed for an authorized business purpose. Prefer aggregated insights where possible, avoid including unnecessary personal or sensitive information in prompts, and review results before sharing them. Data processed within ChatGPT is also subject to your ChatGPT plan, workspace settings, data controls, and OpenAI’s applicable terms and privacy policies.
Before enabling the connection, your organization should:
- Confirm that its use complies with applicable privacy laws.
- Review its agreements, privacy notices, consent requirements, data-retention settings, and internal AI policies.
- Review the privacy, security, and data-processing terms of the selected AI provider.
- Limit access to authorized users and request only the information required for a legitimate business purpose.
- Prefer aggregated or anonymized reporting and avoid including unnecessary personal, sensitive, or confidential information in prompts or outputs.
