# Managing Event Categories

## Organizers can now create Global Event Categories at the organization level. Each category has a name and a color, and once created it is available across all of your event websites for tagging, filtering, and organizing events.

### **Accessing Global Event Categories**

1. From the left-hand menu, go to **Organization Profile** and select **Organization Website**.
2. Click **Event Categories** at the top right of the **Your Event Websites** panel.

3. The **Global Event Categories** page opens. Here you can see every category, its color, and the number of events tagged with it. Use the search bar to find a category by name.

### **Creating a Category**

1. On the **Global Event Categories** page, click **+ Add Category**. The **Add Category** panel opens on the right.
2. Enter a **Category Name** (for example, *Career Fairs* or *Summits*).
3. Pick a **Color** from the swatches, or click **+** to choose a custom color. The color appears next to the category name wherever it is listed.

4. Under **Selection Criteria**, choose how events are added to the category:

- **Select manually** – hand-pick specific events.
  
  Use this option when you know exactly which events belong in the category. Manually selected events stay tagged until you remove them.
  
    - Set **Selection Criteria** to **Select manually**.
    - Search for events by name or URL, then tick the checkbox next to each event you want to include. Each event shows its current status (Draft, In Progress, Live).
    - Check the count at the bottom of the panel (for example, *2 events will be tagged*). Click **Clear All** to start over.
    - Click **Create Category**.

- **Filter conditions** – automatically tag every event that matches a set of rules.

            Use this option to tag events automatically based on their properties. Any event that                            matches the conditions is tagged with the category.                     

- - Set **Selection Criteria** to **Filter conditions**.
    - In the **Filter Group**, choose a **Property**, a **Condition**, and a **Value**.
    - Click **+** inside the group to add another rule, then choose **AND** (events must match all rules) or **OR** (events can match any rule). Click the trash icon to remove a rule.

- - To combine different sets of rules, click **+ Add Group**. Use the **AND / OR** toggle between groups to set how the groups relate to each other. Click **X** on a group to remove it.

- - Review the summary below the groups (for example, *1 of 6 events match these conditions*).
    - Click **Preview** to see the list of matching events, then click **Hide** to collapse it.
    - Click **Create Category**.

 

### **Viewing, Editing, and Deleting Categories**

- To see which events are tagged with a category, click the **events** count next to it (for example, *1 events*). A pop-up lists each tagged event; click the link icon to open the event.

- To edit a category, click the **pencil** icon next to it. In the **Edit Category** panel, update the name, color, selection criteria, or selected events, then click **Save Changes**.

 To delete a category, click the **trash** icon next to it, then click **Delete Category** to confirm.

### **Displaying Categorized Events on Your Organization Website**

Once categories are set up, you can use them to control which events appear on your organization website.

- Go to **Organization Profile \> Organization Website** and click **Design** next to your website to open the **Page Builder**.

- In the **Page Builder Editor**, open the **Event showcase** section.

- Under **Event Category**, tick the categories whose events should be shown in this section. Untick a category to hide its events.

- Adjust the remaining options as needed (**Event Filter**, **Max Events to Display**, **Default Sort Order**, **Layout**, and **Visitor Filters**).
- Click **Save Changes**.

 

**Note:**

- Global Event Categories are created at the organization level and are available across all of your event websites.
- An event can belong to more than one category.
- Events selected manually stay tagged until you remove them. With filter conditions, any event that matches the rules is tagged automatically.
- Deleting a category is permanent and can't be undone. The events themselves are not deleted, and their other categories stay in place.
