Guide to Setting Up the ZD420 Printer
Step 1: Setting up the Router
- Connect the printer with the router via ethernet (LAN) cable. Plug one end of the LAN cable into the printer, and the other end into a LAN Port in the router.
- Once connected to the power supply ensure the antennas are upright, especially if in a double flap case.
NOTE: (For Pepwave Router Only) use the two black ports on the router, not the white one.
Step 2: Setting up the Printer - Zebra ZD420
- Open the printer by pulling the yellow locks on the side and remove any test labels or documents inside.
- Connect the printer to a power supply using the provided power cable and link it to the router with the provided Ethernet cable, ensuring it is inserted into the LAN ports on both devices.
- Press the power button on the printer to turn it on and wait till you have two green lights on the printer, one to the top left and one on the top right. (To ensure you’re connected to the internet, look for an IP address on the bottom of the screen of the printer)
Step 3: Inserting the Badges
Roll of badges
- IF you have a roll of badges, it will go inside the printer.
Fanfold Stack of badges
- If using a stack of badges, place it behind the printer and insert one end into the back, pulling it through to the front.
- The branded side of custom badges is up, or the blank side for blank badges.
- The "Feed Direction" arrow on the back of the badge should point towards the printer during insertion.
- In case of a black line behind the badge stock, make sure the badge with the black line at the back of it should feed through first while printing.
Step 4: Zebra Printer Setup Utility App
- Open the app
- On the pop-up where it says “allow bluetooth”, deny the permission.
- On another pop-up where it says “Allow discovering devices on LAN”, allow it.
- Select Discover Printers tab, and connect to the printer using its IP address displayed on the screen.
- Navigate to Media Settings
- Select Label/Tag
- Enter the badge dimensions (Width and Length) in inches.
- Orientation should be normal
- Click Save, then verify the following settings:
A. Media Type: Black Mark (Or in case of badge stock without black mark at the back of the badges, select this option according to the Media/Badge type being used).
B. Media Handling: Cutter (can be changed to Tear Off while testing to prevent the excessive loss of badges)
C. Type of Transfer: Direct Thermal for DT badges, Thermal Transfer for thermal paper.
Click Next to apply the settings.
- Select Apply after checking save settings to file
Step 5: Setting up the iPad / Phone
- Select the wifi from the settings (WiFi name should be Pepwave or vFairs).
- Enable Auto-Join for the network by tapping the info icon and toggling Auto-Join on.
Step 6: vFairs Badge Printing App
- Enter your login credentials to access the app.
- On the pop-up where it says “sync users”, allow it.
- Navigate to App Settings, then Printer Settings/Connection, and connect to your printer by pressing discover.
- Return to the main screen and select 'Badge Printing Module.' You can either scan the attendee's QR code or search for their name. After selecting a user, confirm to print the badge.
- Press “user listing” to navigate to a list of users.
- From the top of the screen where it says “showing;”, make sure “Attendees” has been selected as the user type. In case of other user types i.e., booth admins, exhibitors, speakers etc select accordingly while printing.
- To print a badge, either type their name in the search bar showcasing on the top of the screen or tap directly on the profile of the attendee if an entire list of user profiles is being displayed.
