# How to Award Leaderboard Points for Session Check-In via QR Scan
## To add leaderboard points for participants who check in to a session by scanning its QR code, follow these straightforward steps.
### Step 1: Navigate to Engagement Settings
Start by logging into your event dashboard. From the **left navigation menu**, click on the **Engagement** option.
### Step 2: Open Leaderboard Settings
Once you're in the Engagement area, click on **Leaderboard**.
### Step 3: Click the "Add Activity Points" Button
At the top-right of the Leaderboard screen, you’ll see an **Add Activity Points** button at top right of the screen. Click this button to open a form where you can add specific points for your leaderboard.
### Step 4: Enter Leaderboard Points
In the form that appears, you will fill in the below mentioned fields:
- Activity Type Drop Down - Select " 
- Reference Ids - If you want to award points for specific sessions only, such as giving points for checking into particular sessions, enter the system-generated IDs of those sessions in a comma-separated format.
NOTE: These IDs can be found under the Session Title in the Session Listing (See below image):
### Step 5: Save Your Changes
Once you've entered the desired points, click the **Save** button to confirm the changes. The new points will be added to the leaderboard, and participants who meet the corresponding criteria will earn those points automatically.
### Why Add Leaderboard Points?
- **Boost Engagement**: Leaderboard points incentivize participants to engage more actively with your event, increasing overall interaction.
- **Gamification**: Adding points introduces an element of gamification, making the event more fun and motivating for attendees.
- **Healthy Competition**: It encourages friendly competition among participants, driving them to explore more activities and make the most out of your event.
### Tips for Managing Leaderboard Points:
- **Set Clear Criteria**: Make sure the actions that earn points are clear to your participants. This will motivate them to participate actively and understand how to earn points.
- **Balance the Points**: Avoid overwhelming participants by assigning too many points for simple actions. Try to balance the points so they reward meaningful participation while maintaining a fair competition.
- **Monitor the Leaderboard**: Regularly check the leaderboard to ensure everything is running smoothly, and that points are being assigned correctly.
By following these steps, you’ll be able to easily add leaderboard points and foster a more interactive, competitive environment for your event. This small addition can have a big impact on attendee participation, making your event more engaging and fun.
