How to configure percentage-based session tracking

Learn to set up session tracking, enabling organizers to measure attendee engagement by tracking time spent in each session. This guide covers enabling tracking, configuring frequency, and setting tracking durations for detailed insights.

What is session tracking?

Percentage-based session tracking provides a valuable tool for organizers to monitor and understand participant engagement by calculating the proportion of each session that attendees actually attend.

This granular data enables event organizers to see which sessions hold the most interest, helping them make data-driven decisions to optimize future content. By identifying which sessions capture attention fully versus those with lower engagement percentages, organizers can refine session topics, presentation styles, or speaker choices.

Configure percentage-based session tracking

  1. Log in to the event backend as a super administrator and click on Sessions section in the left navigation menu. Then click on Session Listings tab.

  2. Click on Settings button present on the top right of the listing screen.
  3. Click on Basic settings and enable the toggle “Enable Tracking Duration for Sessions
  4. Click on Advanced settings and enable the toggle “Track Session Viewing Percentage for Attendees

  5. In the “Sessions Tracking Percentage” text field of advanced settings section, enter the desired session tracking frequency.
  6. Click the Update settings button seen at bottom right of the screen to save the changes.
  7. Navigate back to session listing screen and click Edit button of an existing session or Add button shown at extreme top right of the screen to create a new session. When entering session details, enter a value in the Tracking Duration field and click Save button to save the changes.

  8. The vFairs custom timer object will start and, based on the Session Tracking Frequency, user tracking will be logged into the vFairs system.

Notes:

  • The Session Tracking Frequency determines the percentage of time users spend on-screen relative to the session’s Tracking Duration. For example, if the Tracking Duration is set to 30 minutes and the Session Tracking Frequency is set to 5, a tracking record is logged every 1.5 minutes of session watch time.
  • The Tracking Duration value is required to initiate session tracking, as the vFairs custom timer object depends on it to start the tracking timer.
