How to create and assign product variants

Learn how to create and assign product variants within your E-commerce Platform. This guide will walk you through enabling product variants, creating new variants, and managing their structure to streamline your product catalogue.

Overview:

The Product Variants feature allows users to define variations of products (e.g., size, color, style), helping users to navigate options and making items management easier. Follow the steps below to create and manage product variants.

Prerequisites:

  • Ensure you have Admin/Event Owner role to access and and manage product variants.
  • Verify that E-commerce settings are configured in your platform.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Enabling Product Variants

  • Go to the E-commerce tab in the left-side panel.
  • Within the E-commerce dashboard, click on Settings in the top-right corner, located next to the Add Item button.

  • In Settings, locate the Enable Product Variants toggle.
  • Enable this toggle to access product variants. Once enabled, you will see the Variants sub-tab in the E-commerce dashboard.

2. Navigating to the Variants Dashboard

  • Click on the Variants sub-tab to access the Variants Dashboard.
  • The dashboard displays key details in a table format, including:

Column Name

Description

Name

The variant’s name or title.

Parent Variant

Shows the associated parent variant, if any. This field is empty for entries that are parent variants.

Extra

Additional details such as color codes (e.g., "350e0e" for specific color variants).

Actions

Options to Edit or Delete the variant.

3. Creating a New Variant

  • Click the Add Variant button in the top-right corner of the Variants dashboard. A side panel will open for adding a new variant.

  • Fill out the fields in the form as follows:

  • Variant Title: Name your variant for easy identification.
  • Parent Variant: Select the associated parent variant from the dropdown list, if applicable.
    • Parent and Sub-Variant Hierarchy: Leave this field empty if creating a parent variant. Selecting a parent variant will designate the entry as a sub-variant.
  • Extra: For color variants, add a specific color code (e.g., "350e0e").

  • Click Save to add the variant to your dashboard.

4. Associating Variants with Items

  • Once variants are created, they must be associated with the items they represent.
  • Go to the Items sub-tab in the E-commerce dashboard.
  • If you’re updating an existing item, click the Edit Item button next to the item to open the edit form.
  • If you’re adding a new item, click the Add Item button at the top-right to open a new item form.
  • In the item form, scroll down to find the Variants drop-down menu.
  • From this dropdown, select the variant that matches the item, linking it to the correct variant (e.g., color, size, style).
  • Save the item to apply the variant association.

5. Editing or Deleting Variants

  • To edit a variant, click the Edit icon under the Actions column.
  • For deletion, click the Delete icon. Confirm deletion when prompted.

Tips:

  • Utilize parent variants for overarching categories (e.g., Size or Color) and sub-variants for specific options within those categories (e.g., Small, Medium for Size).
  • When using color variants, specify exact color codes for accurate representation in the catalog.

By following these steps, you can create, manage, and assign product variants to enhance product organisation and the customer experience in your E-commerce event.
