1. Quiz Setup (Admin Panel)
-
Navigate to the Quiz Creation/Edit section.
-
Configure questions, scoring, passing criteria, and basic flow following your standard setup.
2. Enable Retake Quiz Functionality
-
Activate the Allow Retakes toggle to enable the feature (OFF by default).
-
Once enabled, additional settings will appear:
-
Retake Limit: Set a maximum number of allowed retakes per user (e.g. 1, 2, 3, unlimited).
-
Reset Behavior: Choose whether a retake resets:
-
All Questions or
-
Only Incorrect Answers (correct ones are locked).
-
-
Retake Only If Failed: Enable this if retakes are allowed only when a score below the passing threshold is achieved.
-
3. Frontend Experience for Quiz Takers
-
Upon submission, if retakes are allowed and user complies with conditions:
-
A “Retake Quiz” button will appear.
-
The UI will display remaining attempts (e.g., "2 attempts left").
-
If reset behavior is set to "reset incorrect":
-
Correct answers are shown in green and locked.
-
Incorrect items are displayed empty for reattempt.
-
-
If reset behavior is set to "reset all":
-
The entire quiz restarts afresh with no prior answers visible.
-
-
4. User Eligibility and Flow
-
Retake button appears only if:
-
Retakes are enabled and not exhausted.
-
“Retake only if failed” is respected (retake only if score < passing).
-
-
Once the max attempts are used, users see a message like:
“You’ve used all allowed attempts for this quiz.”
5. Admin Tips & Use Cases
-
Common use case: Require users to score at least 75% (e.g., 3 out of 4) to pass. Users below that threshold may then be allowed up to three tries.
-
Reset behavior:
-
If you want to reinforce correct learning while allowing retry, use Reset Only Incorrect Answers.
-
If full fresh attempt is preferred, use Reset All Questions.
-
-
Administrators can configure retake settings without needing project manager assistance.
6. Quiz Reporting & Analytics
-
Each quiz attempt is tracked.
-
Admins can view the number of attempts per user, final scores, and time of completion.
-
Easily spot users who may need further support.
By activating the Retake Quiz feature, admins make quizzes more flexible and educational. Users can retry failed quizzes up to a specified limit, with configurable reset behavior and clear visibility into their remaining attempts. Retake behavior respects passing thresholds and reinforces learning as needed. This builds upon the core quiz creation workflow outlined in vFairs’ Engagement guide
