How to Use Merge Tag Dropdown in the Email Builder

Learn how to insert tags quickly and accurately using the Merge Tag Dropdown in the Email Builder. This enhancement removes the need to manually copy and paste tags, making it easier to personalize your emails.

Head over to the Email Builder inside your Email Campaigns or System Emails module.

Previously, organizers had to open the tag picker, copy tags, and paste them manually into text blocks. This process was repetitive and prone to formatting issues.

The new Merge Tag Dropdown now lets you insert tags directly from the toolbar inside any text block saving time and improving accuracy.

When editing a text block, you’ll now see a Merge Tag Dropdown in the toolbar.

Clicking the dropdown opens a searchable list of all tags available for your event. Each entry shows both the tag’s readable name and its syntax (for example, @first_name, @event_name, or @auto_login_link).

Simply select a tag from the list, and it will be inserted instantly at your cursor position inside the text block.

Only relevant tags are displayed — for instance, if the Abstracts or Sessions module is not enabled for your event, those related tags won’t appear in the dropdown.

How It Works

  1. Click inside any text block within your email.

  2. Open the Merge Tag Dropdown from the toolbar.

  3. Browse or search for your desired tag.

  4. Click to insert, the tag appears instantly at your cursor position.

Your existing formatting and styling remain intact.

Auto Complete Tag

  • The Merge Tag Dropdown appears automatically inside all text block toolbars.

  • The @ symbol acts as the autocomplete trigger for tag suggestions.
